Thank you for your interest in Sigma Dental Specialists.

Sedation Options for Your Comfort

We understand that visiting the dentist can sometimes feel stressful or overwhelming. That’s why Sigma Dental Specialists offers several sedation options—including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation—to help you feel relaxed, comfortable, and at ease throughout your treatment.

What Is Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is a mild form of sedation that can help you feel calm and relaxed during dental treatment. It is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose and begins working quickly.

You will remain awake and able to communicate throughout your appointment while experiencing a comfortable, relaxed sensation. Once treatment is complete, the nitrous oxide is stopped and the effects wear off within a few minutes.

What Is Oral Conscious Sedation?

Oral conscious sedation is a medication-based option designed to help you feel calm and relaxed during your dental treatment. At Sigma Dental Specialists, oral sedation may be provided with Halcion (triazolam), a medication that can help reduce anxiety and promote a more comfortable experience.

You will remain awake during treatment, but you may feel very relaxed and drowsy, and some patients have little memory of their appointment afterward. Local anesthetic is also used to keep the treatment area comfortable.

What Is IV Sedation?

IV sedation is an option for patients who experience significant dental anxiety or are undergoing longer or more complex procedures. Medication is administered through an IV, allowing you to become deeply relaxed while remaining safely monitored throughout your appointment.

Our team will closely monitor your vital signs, including your heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure, before, during, and after treatment. IV sedation can help make your experience more comfortable and stress-free, particularly when multiple or extensive procedures are needed.
